Understanding the challenges and opportunities of trading with China is crucial for local small-to-medium enterprise [SME] importers. Interview with Clive Isenberg, Managing Director, Octet Finance. Isenberg discusses growth in the Chinese market. He says the whole western world has moved manufacturing to China which has brought costs down and allows Australians to be competitive with the rest of the world. Isenberg says using China will assist the growth of small businesses. He discusses difficulties in entering the Chinese market. Host mentions the China Business Summit, held last month in Sydney. Isenberg says it was geared toward Australian exports more than imports. He says the issues are mainly in China, especially that exporters in that country generally do not provide open account terms. Isenberg explains that Octet Finance provides import finance to Australian SMEs, describing it as a trade credit card process. He says the business has been operating for nine weeks.
